At the Door of the New Year

This door used to be a mirage

Floating mockingly out on a hazy horizon

Universes out of reach,

But I fought my way out of the stagnancy

Escaped the impossible chains

Vulnerable and rattled but still standing

Setting aside my armor for rejuvination.

Years have blended into chapters

Walls have broken down into debris

Tears have transformed into breakthroughs

Pain has paved the footholds

Leading to this door.

So I will not look back, I will not flinch

Opening this new year with a sigh of relief

Letting the burdens of yesterday fall

Closing the door behind me softly

Both willing and grateful

To let go.
